A local cleaning company soon will provide free cleaning services to female cancer patients in the Wausau area.

K-tech Kleening Systems Inc. of Weston recently formed a partnership with the Cleaning for a Reason Foundation, a nonprofit organization based in Lewisville, Texas, that links female cancer patients to one of its many cleaning service partners.

Cancer patients who are going through treatment or will be going through treatment are eligible for the service. A patient first must submit an application with the Cleaning for a Reason Foundation in order to qualify, said Sue Kersemeier, a sales manager with K-tech in Weston. The foundation then contacts one of its cleaning partners to provide the service.

“This is just one more way we can give back to the community,” Kersemeier said. “I know there’s a tremendous need for this service.”

K-tech heard about the Cleaning for a Reason Foundation, which currently has 610 partners in all 50 states and Canada, at a convention a few months ago, Kersemeier said. The foundation’s message appealed to K-tech, and company officials soon looked into forming a partnership.

The demand for service has been so great that the foundation has stopped accepting applications until Dec. 7, according to its Web site. The foundation received more than 2,000 applications during the past two weeks.

K-tech in Weston has not provided a service yet, and likely will have to wait until the foundation processes its backlog of applications. When it does, K-tech will offer one cleaning session — dusting, vacuuming and bathroom sanitation — per month for four months to qualifying patients, Kersemeier said.
